Tips for Maximizing Your Storage
- Hang clothes by category and length to maximize space.
- Use "double hang" (one rod above the other) for separates to get twice as much in the same amount of space.
- Adjustable closet systems allow placement of the rods and shelves so there's no wasted space.
- Shoe cubbies can be used to maximize shoe storage.
- Review your wardrobe regularly to weed out items that shouldn't be taking up valuable space in the closet. Ask yourself: Does it fit? Does it flatter? Will I ever really wear it again? Do this every season. Be ruthless. Store off-season clothing elsewhere, if possible.
- Use hooks to store robes, night gowns, and "around the house" clothing.
- Get rid of empty hangers; they waste valuable space. Return wire hangers to dry cleaner for reuse.
- Store off-season or infrequently worn shoes high up on a shelf in plastic shoe boxes with labels.
- Label boxes with contents listed or attach a photo of what's inside.
- Use the back of your door for hooks or racks to store accessories.
- Use the proper hangers. Open-end slack hangers and skirt hangers with clips use less space lengthwise.
